Picture

Cyclists Wanted!

For an exercise research project in sport performance

Purpose of research

  • The primary objective of this study is to determine the effect of interval work-bout duration during training on time-trial performance in cyclists.

Who can participate?

  • Individuals between the ages of 18 and 45 years
  • Training consistently as a cyclist for the last 6-months
  • You will be required to have your own bicycle, Smart Trainer and Heart Rate Monitor

What is involved?

  • Baseline testing (one incremental exercise test and two time-trial tests)
  • 6-weeks of interval training
  • Follow up testing (one incremental exercise test and one time-trial test)

General study information

  • You will be randomly allocated to 1 of 4 interval training groups (your team).
  • Your virtual team is simply the name of your interval training group, which is for study purpose
  • Please note that the testing and training will be completed on your SMART TRAINER at home on your own schedule.
  • The study will consist of 2-weeks of baseline testing, 6-weeks of an interval training program, and 1-week of follow up testing
  • Baseline testing will include one incremental exercise test (IET) and two 40-minute time-trial (TT) tests
  • The two time-trial tests will be used to determine the accuracy of your equipment and the reproducibility of the test
  • The 6-week interval training program will include two sessions of interval exercise per week and 3 sessions of low-intensity exercise
  • Follow up testing will include one IET and one TT test.
  • All exercise sessions, including testing and training, will be completed on you bicycle and SMART TRAINER using the TrainerRoad software platform.
  • You cannot perform other sports during the course of the study (ONLY CYCLING)
  • NOTE: We will provide you with an anonymized TrainerRoad account.
  • Information regarding the platform can be found at: www.trainerroad.com.
