Evidence-Based
Coaching

Making science work for athletes

An approach that uses the best available evidence to support athletic development and performance. This website is intended for coaches and athletes. It includes reviews of the latest evidence on controversial topics and provides information to help readers critically appraise the literature in order to make informed decisions to optimize their training.

Systematic Reviews

A systematic review is considered the highest level of evidence we have to make an informed decision about an intervention. They incorporate a systematic method to select studies on a given topic to limit the risk of bias and provide a valid conclusion on a given topic.

Endurance Sport Coaching

Services include fitness assessment, periodized training programs, training load monitoring, and sport-specific skill development. All coaching services are designed specific to the athlete and their goals. This is done by using the latest and highest quality evidence in combination with hands on experience.

Critical Appraisal

We should never incorporate the findings from an article directly into our practice without assessing the internal and external validity. Internal validity reflects the quality of the study design, implementation, and data analysis in order to minimize the level of bias and determine a true ‘cause and effect’ relationship between an intervention and an outcome. External validity describes the circumstances under which the results of the research can be generalized (the population of interest).

Injury Prevention and Rehabilitation

It is important to address the internal and external risk factors associated with sport-related injuries. Internal risk factors may include fitness, biomechanics and orthopaedics. External risk factors may include training load, sports equipment, and training environment.
